How many ceilings need sampling?
One sample per distinct texture area. A home with the same stipple throughout is usually one or two samples; a house with different texture in an addition needs one per texture.
Does painting over it make it safe?
Paint reduces the chance of fibres releasing from a stable surface but does not change what is in the material, and it does not help once the ceiling is cut, sanded or scraped. The report still governs how work is done.
How fast can someone collect samples in Toronto?
Most Toronto addresses get a same-day or next-morning window. A GTA technician collects the samples, and the accredited lab returns written results in 24 hours on a standard order, or 4–8 hours on a confirmed rush.

Once you hire anyone to do the work, the project is a workplace and O. Reg. 278/05 (Ontario) requires the owner to tell the contractor whether the materials being disturbed contain asbestos. A written accredited lab result is how that duty is discharged — a visual guess is not.
Do you also remove the asbestos you find?
No, and that is deliberate. We only test. Because we never bid removal or abatement, a positive result cannot make us money, so the report holds up with your contractor, your insurer and the Ministry.
